Le Château du Domaine St Martin, Vence, France
The harmonic combination of elegance and luxury, familiar ambiente and a location, which attracted great artists – this all characterises the Château du Domaine St Martin. It is located only some ten minutes from the medieval village of St. Paul in the heart of the French Riviera.
Château and Villas
Rudolf August Oetker took over Le Château du Domaine St Martin in April 1994. Since then the restoration and renovation measures that are carried out in the course of the winter months have added to the comfort and the extent of the castle, which is a member of the renowned "Relais et Châteaux" hotel association.
All of the 47 rooms and suites – including 32 junior suites – provide a justifiably fastidious clientele with superlative places to stay. Each unit is furnished individually and consists of a salon as well as a balcony or a terrace with a Mediterranean view.
The six villas are incomparable with regard to their location and furnishings: each of them possesses 200 square metres living space with two bedrooms, salon and dining rooms and three bathrooms – virtually a small castle in itself. They are perched on a private hill above the Château du Domaine St Martin and afford a breath-taking view of the entire Mediterranean coast and the hilly hinterland from their terraces. As Managing-Director Patrice Arnaud says: "the Côte d'Azur doesn't get any better".
Star Gastronomy
Philippe Guérin is in charge in the kitchen of the Gourmet Restaurant "La Commanderie", which boasts one Michelin star. Its trademark is fine Mediterranean cuisine – at lunchtime and in the evening – with the terrace with its view of the 100 kilometre long coastline the additional cherry on the cake.
The Grill Restaurant "L'Oliveraie" is meant for a light lunch in the shade of centuries-old olive trees. Here the much vaunted aroma of Provence becomes reality.
The hotel Bar is the meeting place to chat for far travelled guests throughout the day and in the evening. Valuable wood panelling and two superb tapestries from the 18th century Gobelin factory substantially contribute towards the elegance of its ambiente.
Banquets
The Chagall and Matisse Salons provide the ideal atmosphere for festive dinners or meetings in a small circle, during which the fabulous view of the entire coastline is bound to captivate the interest of guests. The delightful chapel – let us not forget that the Château was once a castle that belonged to the knights templar – represents an idyllic setting for wedding ceremonies.
Leisure Time
The Hotel Park is some 14 hectares in extent so that recreative walks along fragrant paths are practically a must. The well-known landscape gardener Jean Mus was able to create a harmonic combination of a naturally grown historic heritage and a contemporary facility. At the centre of the Park surrounded by some 300 olive trees, there is the Beauty and Massage section, the heated open-air Swimming Pool as well as two clay courts, an open-air sports centre and a boule court.
Throughout the whole season, the Château du Domaine St Martin organises evening events – interlinking gastronomy, oenology and lyrics.
Ideal Location on the Coast
Le Château du Domaine St Martin can be reached in a straightforward manner by both car and air: Nice international airport is only some 20 minutes away. A private helicopter landing pad is available for arrivals and departures where discretion must be observed.
Vence is located centrally between Cannes and Monaco on the Mediterranean coast only 12 kilometres from the sea and offers diverse opportunities for excursions. Playing golf beneath an azure-blue sky, taking a stroll around Cannes, shopping in Nice and roulette in Monte Carlo – everything is within easy reach. In addition, there are cultural treasures close by as well: from the Romanesque Abbey of Sénanque by way of the Matisse Chapel right up to numerous museums and galleries for modern and contemporary art.
