Riviera Icon
As an enduring symbol of Riviera elegance, the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc's pool embodies over a century of history, transformation, and glamour. Carved into the rock, overlooking the Mediterranean, it has stood the test of time while preserving its magic and legendary aura.

A century of elegance

During World War I, the Grand Hôtel du Cap became a convalescence center for the American Red Cross. Nurses, seeking refreshment in the sea, inspired the creation of a seawater pool with a central fountain, offering a safe and elegant retreat that has endured through time.

A few years after its creation, the pool underwent a subtle evolution, further refining its design while preserving its enchanting allure. Repositioned at the pool’s edge, the majestic lion-head fountain enhances the original basin’s timeless charm and elegance.

Playful enhancements have infused the pool with energy, combining athletic and leisurely pleasures. The iconic lion-head fountain continues to oversee the space with enduring grace and charm.

The pool reached a defining moment in its evolution, adopting a sleek, contemporary rectangular design. The historic lion-head fountain was removed, marking a shift toward refined, modern elegance while preserving the soul of the place.

With its infinity-edge design, the pool creates the illusion of a sea stretching endlessly, embodying a legendary and iconic signature of the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc.
Floating here, time slows, and the world feels as boundless as the horizon.

The Pool Chronicles

Fernand Schevel, legendary lifeguard
In the 1950s, Fernand Schevel stood as an emblematic figure at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, where he had served as a lifeguard for several decades. Beloved for his kindness, and playful humor, he nurtured generations of young swimmers, creating cherished memories through friendly competitions and the sweet surprise of candies hidden at the bottom of the pool. More than a guardian of the sea, he became a mentor, sharing his passion for swimming with children and renowned personalities alike, including Michèle Morgan and Yves Montand. Fernand’s spirit continues to reflect the timeless elegance and joie de vivre that define the Riviera’s most iconic retreat.

Environment and sustainability
Carved into the rock, our legendary pool is filled with crystalline seawater, a choice that embodies both symbolism and sustainability. Drawn directly from the sparkling Mediterranean, the water is carefully purified through an eco-conscious filtration system, preserving its natural brilliance. Floating in this uniquely shaped pool is a sensory journey where the luxury of the Riviera meets the serenity of nature, offering an unforgettable experience that awakens the body, mind, and soul.

A source of well-being
Since 1914, we have drawn seawater to offer a gentle and natural experience. Less harsh than chlorinated water, saltwater soothes the skin, reduces irritation, and is especially suitable for sensitive skin. Thanks to careful maintenance, every swim becomes a moment of relaxation and well-being, leaving the skin fresh and delicately purified.
