150 years of history

What a history! It all began with a Frenchman’s dream, a retreat for creative spirits on the glorious ‘Cap’. And they came, casual Picasso, reclusive Chagall and Scott Fitzgerald, screen goddesses and Cannes directors. They revelled in the carefree elegance and inspirational beauty.

The launch of a Riviera legend

Perched on the sun-drenched cliffs of Cap d'Antibes, the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc has charmed writers, aristocrats, and visionaries across generations.

Hippolyte de Villemessant, founder of *Le Figaro*, envisioned Villa Soleil as a haven for writers.

Lacking the necessary funds, Paul de Fersen and Alexis de Plestcheyeff took over the project with the help of French aristocrats.

The hotel opened its doors five years later under the name Grand Hôtel du Cap. In 1870, Antoine Sella transformed this place into a haven of creativity, romance, and timeless elegance, giving birth to a Riviera legend.
