Long before luxury resorts graced these shores, Amerindian craftspeople made an extraordinary discovery beneath Yennecot's tropical beauty: the Caribbean's finest flint deposits. They transformed Flinty Bay into a thriving manufacturing hub, creating tools so exquisitely crafted they became treasured across the archipelago.
When Columbus' ships appeared on the horizon, they encountered islands already steeped in millennia of human history. The Spanish named the neighboring island Antigua, meaning "ancient", recognizing the timeless spirit that permeated these shores. It was an acknowledgment that Yennecot held secrets far older than any European expedition could claim.
The island shifted into a gentler chapter as sheep grazed along pristine shores, giving Pasture Bay its enduring name. Life followed the unhurried rhythm of Caribbean tides and trade winds—a peaceful era between epochs of greater drama.
Sir Roland Franklin saw what others missed: an island where luxury and legacy could coexist in harmony. His Bella Vista concept pioneered what would become the Jumby Bay experience, proving that luxury hospitality could enhance rather than diminish natural beauty. In 1983, the exclusive Jumby Bay Island Club was established, uniting homeowners and resort guests around a shared vision of privacy, sophistication, and environmental stewardship. "We sought to create not just a resort, but a way of life that honored both the natural splendor of the islands and the refined tastes of discerning travelers," was the founding vision of Sir Roland Franklin.
In 2002, the Jumby Bay Island Company formalized the island's commitment to excellence, securing its status among the world's finest private island.
